Tree lighting
Gilbert will host the lighting of the town’s official 28-foot Christmas tree at 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Civic Center North Campus, 50 E. Civic Center Drive. This free event will include displays, live entertainment, food and a visit from Santa Claus.
The tree will remain lit through Jan. 3.

Holiday festival
If you’re looking for even more seasonal activities, check out the Holiday Family Fun Festival from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at C3 Modern Storage, 2414 S. Gilbert Road. Games, activities, hay rides, cocoa, raffles and more will all be at this free event.
Photos with Santa will be available for those who donate a canned food item.

'A Christmas Carol’
The Hale Centre Theatre will present the well-known tale by Charles Dickens, “A Christmas Carol,” Monday through Dec. 23.
This story of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey to discovering the true meaning of the holiday is a Christmas classic.
The theater is located at 50 W. Page Ave. Ticket prices are $15 opening night and $22 for matinees and $24 for evening shows after that.

Caroling at the library
If you need some music to get you in the holiday spirit, the Perry High School Choir will be performing seasonal classics on Tuesday at the Perry Branch Library, 1965 E. Queen Creek Road. There will also be cookie decorating and a pajama story time. Events will run from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Dinosaur dig
Children 5 and older are invited to learn about the dinosaurs that used to call the area home. Kids will also be able to take part in a dino dig to unearth fossils.
The program will run 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Riparian Preserve, 2757 E. Guadalupe Road. The workshop will cost $5, and advance registration is required.

Fine art crafts
Children 7 to 14 are invited to attend this program from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Perry Branch Library, 1965 E. Queen Creek Road. Participants will learn about the life and art of a famous artist.
They will then have the chance to create their own works using the artist’s techniques.

Art show
The Gilbert Visual Art League is holding its seventh annual Fine Art Show through Saturday at the Gilbert Historical Museum, 10 S. Gilbert Road.
The show will display works by a variety of local artists and will feature a special division for art by youths.
Admission to the museum is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children 5 to 12.

Recreational classes available
Looking to get the kids out of the house? Interested in picking up a new skill?
Registration is open for the winter session of Gilbert recreational classes. Take a look at the wide variety of activities offered by the town at the Freestone Recreation Center, 1141 E. Guadalupe Road.
Dance, sports, education, fitness and martial arts are just a few of the courses offered. Registration fees and starting dates vary.
