The Associated Press

Page Too: It’s rivalry week for some schools in college football. What was the USC-UCLA rivalry like?

Matt Leinart: That was a game for the city. It was always fun. In five years, I never lost to them.

PT: Would there be a lot of trash talk during the week?

ML: As I got older it was just another football game. I think that’s how a lot of guys saw it. Yeah, it’s definitely a rivalry and crosstown, and there’s a lot of bad blood just because it’s the two schools, but as you get older you know a lot of the guys there (at UCLA) because of camps and stuff, so just like beating them for bragging rights. Other than that, it’s just a football game.

PT: Is that the most important thing, the bragging rights?

ML: Oh, yeah. We’ve got (safety) Matt Ware here and I never lost to him in high school or college. I always give him that. Really, the only guy that beat me in this locker room is (center) Lyle (Sendlein) when he was with Texas and we lost in the Rose Bowl. Other than that, no one really says anything.

PT: So when it’s rivalry week, are there a few dollars being bet on in the locker room?

ML: Not too much. Maybe other guys, but not me.
