Charity roping event

The Kops & Kowboys for Kids Charity Team Roping Classic will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Horseshoe Park Equestrian Centre, 20464 W. Riggs Road. This yearly event, featuring 300 competitors, seeks to raise money for various children’s charities throughout the East Valley.

Admission is free for spectators.

Thanksgiving party

Get into the holiday spirit a little early this week. The Queen Creek Community Center, 22047 S. Ellsworth Road, will hold a Thanksgiving celebration for youths from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. The festivities will include games, crafts, activities and more.

The event is free to all registered participants of the community center.

Family story time

Bring the kids out to the Queen Creek Branch Library, 21802 S. Ellsworth Road, from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday for a taste of old-fashioned entertainment. Stories, songs and activities will amuse family members of all ages.

The library will also hold story time sessions for young children. A program for infants 18 months and younger will be 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday. “Toddler Time” for those children 18 to 36 months old will be 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Children 3 to 6 years old are invited to attend the preschooler story time 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. One parent per child is requested.

Space is limited and tickets will be distributed a half-hour before the event begins.

'Willy Wonka Junior’

The Queen Creek Performing Arts Center’s Community Theatre, 22149 E. Ocotillo Road, will present this stage adaptation of the beloved Roald Dahl book at 7 p.m. Monday. The story tells the tale of a group of children touring a candy factory and the wonders they find within.

Late registration for softball league

Don’t miss your last chance to sign up for winter softball. Late registration for the Queen Creek Parks and Recreation Department’s winter softball league will be open Monday through Wednesday. Games will be played 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Founders’ Park, 22407 S. Ellsworth Road, in a double-header format on Wednesday and Friday nights over 11 weeks beginning Jan. 13.

Registration is $515 per team.

Fall recreation classes available

Are you looking to get the kids out of the house? Or perhaps you’d like to pick up a new skill or talent yourself?

Take a look at the slate of classes and programs available through Queen Creek’s Parks and Recreation Department.

There are classes for all age groups and interests, ranging from physical fitness to instruction in the fine arts.

Drop-in sports

If you’re looking for some exercise and fun, the Barney Family Sports Complex, 22050 E. Queen Creek Road, is offering drop-in sessions for basketball and hockey. The basketball gym will be open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays for shooting around. Hockey players are invited to drop by for pickup games from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays.

Fees for either sport are $5.
