Stargazing for everyone

Join experts Tony and Carole La Conte and explore the wonders of the nighttime sky via an outdoor slideshow. The program is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Usery Mountain Regional Park, 3939 N. Usery Pass Road.

Learn about the stars, constellations and planets. Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring binoculars or a telescope. Don’t forget to bring chairs or blankets to sit on.

The program is free, but there is a $6 park entry fee per vehicle.

Native American art show

The Mesa Native American Arts Festival will run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today on the southeast corner of Pepper Place and Macdonald. The event will feature 60 booths full of art, live music, food and more.

E-mail classes

Those interested in learning about using e-mail can sign up for a free class that will cover how to set up a Web-based e-mail account, writing and sending e-mail, attaching files and other techniques.

The class will be 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the main branch of the Mesa Library, 64 E. First St. A valid Mesa library card and PIN are needed to participate. Class size is limited and tickets will be distributed 30 minutes before the start time.

'Church Basement Ladies’

After selling out performances in Chicago and Minneapolis, this musical comedy comes to the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St., through Nov. 22. The play details the lives of the women who work in basement kitchens serving up food for all manner of church events. William Christopher, who played Father Mulcahy on television’s “M*A*S*H,” also stars.

'Wii Love Games’ program

The Red Mountain Library, 635 N. Power Road, will have its Nintendo Wii video game system available for patrons to play. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, seniors are invited to try their hand at the interactive gaming experience. From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, kids 4 to 18 will have the opportunity to give it a whirl.

If video games aren’t your cup of tea, traditional board games and puzzles will also be available. Come out, play some games and meet some new friends.

Lunchtime concert

Pack a lunch and enjoy the outdoors along with a free midday musical performance 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. Main St. The husband and wife duo of Chris and Lena Jacome will provide the entertainment with their flamenco dancing and guitar.

'All Desert Trees’ lecture

Have you ever wondered how trees are able to survive in the dry desert environment? If so, bring a lunch to this program and learn all about the survival tactics of the tough trees from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Usery Mountain Regional Park, 3939 N. Usery Pass Road.

Arts festival

The Mesa Arts and Culture Festival is a free, weekly event that features works by local artists, live music, food, activities for the whole family and more.

The MAC Fest continues its fall season on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Mesa at Main Street and Macdonald.
