If you've never seen the guy who master artist and performer Elton John calls "the greatest songwriter on the planet," now's your chance. Rufus Wainwright, son of folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, has made his mark in rock, opera, theater, dance and film through projects like an acclaimed opera, a musical adaptation of Shakespearean sonnets in drag, and a Grammy Award-winning tribute album to singer Judy Garland. He's also received Juno Awards for "Best Alternative Album" for two of his seven albums and acted in "The Aviator," a 2004 Martin Scorsese film.
>> Rufus Wainwright performs 8 p.m. Saturday at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second St., Scottsdale. $58. (480) 994-2787 or www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org.
