The Pinal County Sheriff's Office submitted the charges against Richard Eck III to the county attorney Tuesday.
On Oct. 2, Eck, who was driving a pickup truck, and a motorcyclist had a verbal exchange on the Old West Highway. When they stopped at the intersection of Old West Highway and Idaho Road, the sheriff's office said Eck hit the rear of the motorcycle. Eck III then got out of the truck and approached the motorcyclist, Eric Martinez, with a pipe, authorities said.
Martinez punched Eck III in the face twice and then punched Eck in the face as he was sitting inside his truck. Eck then struck the motorcycle a second time, knocking Martinez's wife to the ground and injuring her, the sheriff's office said.
On Oct. 5, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office recommended Eck be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after being accused of driving his truck into the back of Martinez's motorcycle. The sheriff's office also recommended that Martinez be charged with misdemeanor assault.
As of Tuesday, no charges had been filed by prosecutors.
