The possibility for increasing ozone levels has prompted the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality to issue a health watch for Friday.
State warns of rise in ozone pollution
Ozone is a secondary pollutant created when other pollutants are heated. It can aggravate existing respiratory conditions and may cause sore throats and coughs. A health watch is issued when ozone levels could approach federal standards.
People susceptible to respiratory issues may want to limit time outdoors.
Though there could be minimal cloud cover on Friday, the forecast calls for declining wind flow, which may trap existing ozone at the same time as high afternoon ozone production. That prompted the health watch, with the possibility for extensions into the weekend, according to ADEQ.
