Phoenix Mercury guard Cappie Pondexter was named the WNBA Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 21.5 points in a pair of victories.
Pondexter, who earned her third player-of-the-week award of her career, also averaged 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists in wins over the Seattle Storm and Los Angeles Sparks, helping the Mercury move into first place in the Western Conference, a half-game ahead of the Minnesota Lynx.

Against the Storm, Pondexter recorded her first double-double (22 points, 11 rebounds) of the season while missing a triple-double by only two assists. She drained four of her six 3-pointers for a season high in the game. She followed that performance with a game-high 21 points in a road win at Los Angeles. In that game, she pulled down four rebounds to become the second-fastest player (107 games; Diana Taurasi, 104 games) in league history to record 2,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists in a career.
Pondexter ranks third in the WNBA in scoring (20.6 ppg) and fifth in assists (4.8 apg).
Tammy Sutton-Brown of the Indiana Fever was the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
