Gilbert police were investigating Saturday the death of a 60-year-old woman who was struck by a car while pushing her grandson in a stroller Friday night, according to authorities.
The 2-year-old child was not injured in the 7:59 p.m. collision that took his grandmother's life, said Gilbert police spokesman Detective Joe Gilligan. Gilligan said the collision occurred at Warner Road and Copper Key Drive, near the busy cross streets of McQueen and Cooper roads.
Gilligan said Gilbert resident Jaleh Boozia, 60, was struck by the vehicle but the child was not. "We don't know whether she pushed the child out of the way or whether the driver swerved and avoided the child at the last minute," he said. The direction and rate of the car's speed were not provided late Saturday, and Gilligan said the collision was still under investigation. It was not released whether any action would be taken against the driver of the vehicle that struck Boozia.
Boozia was flown to Scottsdale Osborn Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical officials, Gilligan said.
Gilligan said the child is fine and is with his family.
No further details were available late Saturday.
