'Everything you need to know to teach preschoolers' class

This course is designed to provide parents with the knowledge of how and what to teach their children to fully prepare them for entering the classroom. Reading, writing, art and even foreign language instruction will all be covered. The class costs $17 and runs 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Southeast Regional Library's Conference Room B. Water exercise programs

If you're looking to get into shape while staying cool, Gilbert is offering aquatic boot camps at the town pools. The programs include stretching, strength training, cardio exercises and more. The courses run 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday through July 30 or 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday through Aug. 1 at the Mesquite Aquatic Center, 100 W. Mesquite St. Registration costs are $99 for the morning session and $75 for the evening session. Early-morning bird walk

Those interested in learning about and observing local birds will have the opportunity during this walk led by experienced birder Kathe Anderson at 6 a.m. Saturday at the Riparian Preserve, 2757 E. Guadalupe Road. The cost is $5 and registration is required via e-mail to kathe.coot@cox.net.

Register for a trip to IMAX

The Teen Treks program for youths 11 to 15 continues with a trip to the IMAX theater for a double feature consisting of "Under the Sea" and "Dinosaurs Alive," both in 3-D. Popcorn and soda will be included along with an all-you-can-eat pizza buffet. Registration is $23 and ends on Wednesday. Contact (480) 503-6200 or www.GilbertRecreation.com to sign up. The trip will depart 9 a.m. July 15 from the Gilbert Community Services Department, 90 E. Civic Center Drive.

Children's puppet show

Great Arizona Puppet Theater, a local professional puppet group, will present a show to entertain the whole family. The show is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday in the assembly room at the Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road. Tie-dye workshop

Children ages 6 to 12 can learn how to make their own customized tie-dye T-shirt. Participants should come dressed to get messy and bring a 100 percent cotton T-shirt to work with. The class costs $16 and runs from 12:45 p.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the McQueen Park Activity Center, 510 N. Teen movie matinee

Teens are invited to watch the comedy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" on the big screen from 1:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the assembly room at the Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road. Chairs will be limited, so bring something soft to sit on.

Wildlife garden walks

Explore wildlife gardens in the Riparian Preserve with plant biologist Jennie Rambo. Hear about the project to attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other wildlife to the preserve. Learn how you can use similar techniques in your own home garden. The walk is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday and costs $3. Astronomy lecture and star viewing

Various astronomy concepts and new discoveries will be discussed during this monthly lecture series at 8 p.m. Friday in the library classroom at the Southeast Regional Library, 775 N. Greenfield Road. A $3 donation is requested for the lecture. Afterward, the East Valley Astronomy Club will have telescopes set up outside for a free public star-viewing party.
