Now we know what happens when a chicken crosses the road: Traffic backs up on Interstate 17.
Holiday travelers preparing to make their way out of town Friday afternoon should expect heavy traffic, especially northbound on I-17 from Loop 101 to the Carefree Highway and on State Route 87 heading to Payson.
A rooster contributed to clogging traffic on I-17, according to an Arizona Department of Public Safety release. The bird tried to cross the road’s northbound lanes just south of the Carefree highway at about 11 a.m. Friday.
DPS successfully rescued the rooster, which was unscathed, at about 11:40 a.m. Traffic was backed up to the junction of Loop 101 and was still clearing out of the area at 1 p.m..
There was also one accident reported on State Route 87 going northbound into Payson Friday morning. That accident was cleared by 1 p.m., although traffic was still heavy.
