Motorists preparing for a vacation trip this holiday weekend can rejoice that the cost of gasoline is 35 percent less than a year ago, according to AAA Arizona.
July 4 travel forecast down from last year
The average price of a gallon of regular self-serve gas in the East Valley is $2.64 this week, down more than 3 cents from a week ago. Last year the holiday average was $4.10, which was the all-time high, the auto club said.
Statewide, this year's average also is $2.64, down 2.5 cents from last week and far below last year's $4.09, the association said.
This year's Fourth of July fuel costs are the lowest since 2005, the group said.
Fuel prices have either dropped or been stable in Arizona for 10 straight days following 51 straight days of increases, said AAA spokeswoman Michelle Donati.
