Gilbert resident Susan Pasternack has received the Order of Saint Maurice medallion from the National Infantry Association and the Chief of Infantry of the U.S. Army for her contributions to the infantry as a civilian working for General Dynamics C4 Systems in Scottsdale.
Pasternack, retired this week from General Dynamics, was manager for Strategy and Business Development for Integrated Systems, the GD unit that developed the Army's Land Warrior ensemble.
The high-tech ensemble, which has been deployed to Iraq, improves solders' understanding of the battlefield, allowing them to carry out command-and-control functions, send text messages and receive position information, according to GD.
Although the program was canceled by the Army in 2007, the technology is expected to be incorporated into future advanced soldier systems.
