Ralph Freso, Tribune

Page Too caught up with Mercury sharpshooter Kelly Mazzante to find out about growing up in small-town Pennsylvania and one topic she can't stand hearing about from teammate Diana Taurasi.

PT: You grew up in Montoursville, Pa. (population 5,000). What else did you do besides basketball?

KM: Nothing. We went to school, shopping mall, played sports and hung out with our group of friends.

PT: Diana Taurasi and Connecticut beat Penn State pretty good in the 2004 Elite Eight (66-49). Still bitter?

KM: No, I'm over it. I'm sick of hearing about it. She brings it up every chance she gets, all the national championship (stuff).

PT: What was it like around Montoursville after 16 kids and five adults from the high school were killed on the TWA Flight 800 plane crash between New York and Paris (1996).

KM: It was surreal. It was terrible. We knew most of those kids, and I was just entering high school and supposed to play basketball for the next three years with a few of them, and being in a small town brought us all closer together.
