Arizona State catcher Carlos Ramirez has been chosen by the Los Angeles Angels in the eighth round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Ramirez is hitting .349 this season with 18 home runs and 72 RBIs.
His draft stock rose considerably this season after a seamless transition from junior college to Pac-10 baseball. Ramirez was drafted by the Angels in the 34th round last year.
He could conceivably team back up with Josh Spence in the minors. The ASU left-hander was the Angels’ third-round selection.
Sun Devils shortstop Jared McDonald was taken by the Chicago White Sox in the 21st round (No. 643).
