Craig Creed, 50, of Mesa, who was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, died Thursday in a motorcycle crash on Loop 101 in Scottsdale at Hayden Road, according to Maj. Paul Aguirre, spokesman for the Arizona National Guard.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating the cause of the crash.
Creed was on his way home after riding with a group of more than 60 riders in the funeral of U.S. Army specialist and Valley resident Adam Hardt, 19, who died in a noncombat incident in Afghanistan on March 21, Aguirre said.
Creed was a Desert Storm veteran who served in the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1992. He was a pilot for Mesa Airlines before joining UPS, where he was a pilot for the last 16 years. He was an active supporter of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cindy, his daughter Stephanie, son Justin and daughter-in-law Jessica.
Funeral arrangements for Creed are pending. The family has requested that in lieu of sending flowers to the family, to donate to the Patriot Guard Riders or Boys and Girls Clubs of the East Valley.
