A 19-year-old Mesa resident has been arrested on suspicion of a Nov. 23 arson fire of Epiphany Lutheran Church in Chandler and burglary of the Greater Phoenix Chinese Christian Church, Chandler police said Wednesday.
Marcus Robbestad was arrested Tuesday by detectives of the Chandler Property Crimes Unit.
Police said Robbestad first burglarized the Phoenix church, stealing a cymbal, snare and pedal for a bass drum. After the burglary, Robbestad forced his way into the Chandler church and set fire to it. Robbestad fled, leaving behind the stolen instruments, police said.
A forensic identification technician was able to obtain latent fingerprints on the cymbal. Police said the fingerprints belonged to Robbestad. He is charged with arson, burglary, and aggravated criminal damage.
