Robert L. Myers III, 26, charged with five counts of manslaughter and three counts of aggravated assault, is scheduled to go to trial in Maricopa County Superior Court on Feb. 24 before Judge Connie Contes, according to information from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
Police estimated that Myers’ pickup truck was traveling at 65 mph in a 45 mph zone when he ran a red light while traveling south on Granite Reef Road and McDowell roads the morning of Sept. 21, 2007.
Killed in the crash were husband and wife, Antonio Pedraza-Olivares, 30, and Noelia Rebolledo-Sanchez, 36, of Tempe, as well as three children.
The children who died included Pedraza-Olivares’ and Rebolledo-Sanchez’s 4-year-old son, Antonio Pedraza-Rebolledo, and sisters Jennifer Ramirez-Pedraza, 9, and Mayra Ramirez-Pedraza, 13. The girls were the daughters of Guadalupe Pedraza, 26, the driver of the car.
Myers, who was not wearing a seat belt, was treated and released for minor injuries at Scottsale Healthcare Osborn hospital.
