A collision involving a car and a Metro light-rail train in Tempe briefly shut down the rail line on Monday, Tempe police said.

Light rail still popular after free-ride period

A car collided with the light rail train about 4:20 p.m. at a crossing at University Drive between McAllister Avenue and Rural Road, according to Tempe police Sgt. Steven Carbajal.

Travel along the rail line was briefly interrupted, but now is back in service, Carbajal said.

No injuries were caused by the collision, Carbajal said.

Last week, a car collided with the train near First Avenue and Jefferson Street, marking Metro's first reported collision. In that case, the car sped off, and there were no injuries.
