DOUBLE TIME? Ohio State quarterbacks Todd Boeckman (17) and Terrelle Pryor (2) exchange greetings during the Buckeyes’ photo day Aug. 7. Ohio State may use both quarterbacks in certain formations during Monday’s Fiesta Bowl.

The Associated Press

Suffice to say, offensive coordinator Jim Bollman was not happy when the news leaked a week ago that Ohio State might put quarterbacks Terrelle Pryor and Todd Boeckman on the field at the same time for some plays Monday in the Fiesta Bowl against Texas.

Texas notebook: Muschamp’s salary confirmed

“You guys know you can come and see me. I love to talk about game plans. Let’s tell everybody what’s going on,” Bollman said tongue-in-cheek Wednesday.

Coach Jim Tressel, meanwhile, earlier confirmed the report, and all but guaranteed the ploy will be used at least once. But neither he, Bollman nor the players have gone into detail about how the two-quarterback system will be used, though fullback Brandon Smith said the formation has at least a working name.

“I don’t think we have a special name for it. I think some of the guys wanted to call it The Dispatch because they’re the ones that broke the news,” Smith said.

So will it deliver big news for the offense?

“We’ll see what happens,” Smith said. “We strive to put our best 11 on the field. When those two get out there, there are going to be some things we can do. I’m not quite sure Texas will be prepared for that. Hopefully, it will be an advantage.”

Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp said it’s always smart to go into any bowl game with one’s eyes wide open.

“You adjust in the game to what they do,” Muschamp said. “The thing about a bowl game is you have a lot of time off. You can chase ghosts a lot. So you’ve got to evaluate what they’ve done and what they might do … then you make a judgment as a coach of what you think you’ll see and then you make adjustments in the game.”

GETTING IT STRAIGHT

Tight end Rory Nicol is eager to see what one Texas reporter writes from an interview Wednesday in which he was repeatedly questioned on his opinion of Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo.

“I think he’s a great player,” Nicol answered in so many ways several times, not sure where the reporter was headed. Nicol continued to extol the virtues of Orakpo, though he also offered, “but he’s not Superman.”

Then he noticed that all the reporter wrote down was “He’s not Superman” before leaving. Nicol turned to other reporters at his table and said, “(She) was dying for me to just say Orakpo is a terrible player.”

SEE YOU LATER, DAD

Receiver Brian Robiskie said he’s hoping the Buckeyes’ practice schedule will allow him the chance to go to the Arizona Cardinals’ first-round playoff game against Atlanta on Saturday. That’s because his father, Terry, is receivers coach for the Falcons.

“I’ve got a lot of family coming out … and they’ll be staying for my game,” Brian Robiskie said. “It will end up working out pretty good.”

He’s just hoping his dad won’t be at Ohio State’s game Monday night, because that will mean the Falcons lost.

“I left him a ticket, but it’s going to be empty (seat),” he said.
