A man was arrested after a Mesa police officer responding to a party was shoved and injured early Thursday morning in the 2300 block of West Jacinto Avenue.

The man faces aggravated assault of a police officer and underage consumption charges, police said.

When police arrived to the party at 1 a.m., the man, who was intoxicated, approached them and admitted to being underage, police said.

He did not respond to the officer’s commands and shoved the officer twice, once as the police officer was reaching for his Taser.

After a 1/8 mile pursuit, the man was caught and then detained without further incident.

The officer received minor injuries to his knee and hands.
