The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has extended its air health watch into today.
In addition, the Maricopa County Department of Air Quality has extended No Burn Day restrictions through midnight.
The Valley has been under No Burn Day restrictions since Tuesday. The restrictions and health watch notices follow high pollution advisories issued Sunday and Tuesday.
Residents with respiratory issues and senior citizens are advised to limit time outdoors.
Particulate matter of various sizes are caused by activities such as wood burning, excess dust from construction sites and use of leaf blowers, and car exhaust. With temperature inversions and no strong winds, the particulate matter is trapped over the Valley.
A change may be coming. Forecasts call for a weather system arriving this weekend that will push the high pressure aside and possibly bring rain Sunday to the Valley.
