A 66-year-old, unidentified homeless man who was attempting to walk across McDowell Road near Scottsdale's Granite Reef Senior Center was struck and killed by a pickup truck Monday night.

Sgt. Dave Pubins, a Scottsdale Police Department spokesman, said neither speed nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the incident and no citations have been issued.

"There were no charges against the driver, and he did stop at the scene," Pubins said.

The man was not in the crosswalk at the time he was struck, Pubins said.

At about 8 p.m., a red Nissan pickup truck struck the man as he stepped into the roadway on the north side of McDowell Road near Granite Reef Road. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Pubins said police records show there have been 10 collisions in or near that intersection in the last year.
