What to see this week
1. “Frost/Nixon”: Sorry, Sir Anthony. Frank Langella’s performance is the new defining portrait of the disgraced ex-prez.
2. “Slumdog Millionaire”: Danny Boyle visits Scottsdale, gets much love from the Phoenix Film Critics Society. Talk about “currying favor.”
3. “Milk”: Wins top honors from the San Francisco Film Critics Circle. Well, duh.
4. “Seven Pounds”: Like “21 Grams” meets “Pay It Forward.” Sounds horrible, right? It’s not.
5. “Yes Man”: Jim Carrey make funny face! My veg-out special of the week.
What NOT to see this week
1. “The Day the Earth Stood Still”: On the pointless-remake meter, ranks just above “Psycho.”
2. “Punisher: War Zone”: Exceeds even my bloated daily appetite for wanton movie bloodshed.
3. “Four Christmases”: Honestly, if it’s a brainlessly upbeat comedy you want, see “Yes Man.”
4. “Australia”: Baz Luhrmann dresses up Hugh Jackman like Clark Gable, but I get more of a Rock Hudson vibe.
5. “Twilight”: Director Catherine Hardwicke recuses herself from the sequel. Someone else can powder Robert Pattinson’s bottom now.
