He will be arraigned on the charges Thursday.
Stapley is accused of failing to list business ventures on financial disclosure statements, which elected officials are required to file, going back to 1994. The charges were brought after a months-long investigation by the Maricopa County sheriff’s and attorney’s offices.
Stapley faces multiple counts of perjury, forgery and false swearing, all felonies. The charges relate to his failure to list specific land holdings and other assets on the disclosure statements.
