A Phoenix man accused in the death of his baby daughter has been arrested after police said he admitted to shaking the infant.
Eight-month-old Mia Delgado died on Nov. 23 from what doctors called "non-accidental" injuries, according to a court document.
The girl had suffered a skull fracture, brain injury and retinal hemorrhages in both eyes.
Arturo Delgado, 23, faces charges of first-degree murder and child abuse, police said.
He was arrested Tuesday and his bail was set at $1 million.
Police were called to Phoenix Children's Hospital to investigate the origin of the baby's injuries after she was treated there.
Authorities contacted Delgado and his common-law wife, Bridgette Chee, and both parents agreed to be interviewed by police.
Chee told investigators she returned to the couple's home Nov. 21 when Delgado immediately told her something was wrong with the infant and they decided to take the baby to a hospital.
When interviewed by police, Delgado said he dropped Mia in the shower and dropped her a second time when changing her diaper, according to the court document.
A hospital doctor told police the girl's brain and retinal injuries were unrelated to her being dropped and the injuries suggested the infant had been "vigorously shaken."
Delgado told police that he shook the baby when she was unresponsive after being dropped.
