Put away your popped collars, preppies. Grow some fangs, goths. Spurred by the phenomenal popularity of author Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" and HBO's "True Blood," vampires are the hot new schoolyard clique. Will it be long before mainstream, gainfully employed adults are fitting their canine teeth with pointy veneers?

Without too much effort, you could make this a bona fide vampire weekend. No bloodsucking required.

THE CLASSICS

No vampire worth his or her black eyeliner would dive into the lifestyle without a solid working knowledge of the classic movies that have shaped modern vampire mythology. F.W. Murnau's 1929 classic, "Nosferatu" ($29.95), is the blood-curdling granddaddy of them all, but new-look vampires may prefer the satirical bite of Roman Polanski's 1967 "The Fearless Vampire Killers" ($19.98) or Frank Langella's feathered-hair seducer in a 1979 version of "Dracula" ($14.98) that also starred the great Laurence Olivier as Van Helsing.

HOT TOPIC

And you thought the mall-based retailer was only good for funny belt buckles and bargain nose rings. Not hardly. Hot Topic is also your vampire-bandwagon headquarters. In fact, the store has an official partnership with the "Twilight" movie production, stocking everything from "Twilight"-licensed key rings ($6.99) to "Team Edward" hoodies ($44 to $46) - so named after the dreamy teen vampire Lothario in Meyer's story.

>> Hot Topics are located in the Chandler Fashion Center, 3111 W. Chandler Blvd., San Tan Village, 2770 E. Williams Field Road, Gilbert, and Scottsdale Fashion Center, 7014 E. Camelback Road). Or visit hottopic.com to find a location near you.

'TWILIGHT'

Edward-heads, you dreamboat has docked. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke - no stranger to idealized teen alienation with such titles as "Thirteen" and "Lords of Dogtown" - the movie traces the mortally-charged courtship between klutzy high school newcomer Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward ("Harry Potter" regular Robert Pattinson), a mysterious, withdrawn classmate torn between protecting her and popping her open like a big can of Clamato. Fans of the book will be pleased. Nonfans might find it sophomoric and insider-y.

>> "Twilight" opens Valleywide today.
