They surely had things of greater import to talk about.
But when you consider both Barack Obama and John McCain are both big sports fans, with McCain representing Arizona in the Senate, maybe it’s not so surprising that the Cardinals came up in their conversation during a meeting Monday.
Kurt Warner, in particular, was praised by Obama for his outstanding season.
“It must have been an uncomfortable situation where they had nothing to talk about,” Warner joked.
More seriously, “Those things are always kind of neat. It’s obviously a cool thing to be recognized in that manner.”
Yet, “It must have been a slow day for news if they were talking about me.”
NO SPORTS BAR NECESSARY
The Cardinals’ Thanksgiving night game at Philadelphia will be carried on the NFL Network.
Fans who don’t get this channel need not worry as the game also will be carried locally on KUTP-TV. That’s Channel 45, Channel 9 on the Cox cable system.
INJURY UPDATE
Cornerback Rod Hood, who has been nursing sore ribs, missed practice because of a funeral. His status won’t be known until later in the week.
But Eric Green, who has had a sore knee, took some pressure off the cornerback spot when he practiced fully.
Linebacker Clark Haggans sat out practice with a sore foot. But he was able to finish Sunday’s game at Seattle after suffering the injury.
For the Giants, the Cardinals’ opponent Sunday, running back Brandon Jacobs sat out practice with a sore knee.
But coach Tom Coughlin sounded hopeful that Jacobs could play, saying, “Brandon has played through some nicks before.”
FEWER CLOSE ONES
The Cardinals are playing in fewer close games this season. And they’re winning them.
The Cardinals are now 3-0 in games decided by six or fewer points this season.
They were 4-4 last year.
