Scottsdale briefs: 'Third Thursday'concerts relocate

Tempe Marketplace's loss is downtown Scottsdale's gain as the free Third Thursday concert series moves to Craftsman Court, home of several well-known nightspots and specialty retailers between Third and Fifth avenues 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, city officials announced.

Featured performer for the event, sponsored by "The Edge" radio station KEDJ (103.9 FM), is Marcy Playground.

City office gets economic honor

Scottsdale's Economic Vitality Department has been named one of the 2008 Economic Engines of Arizona Award honorees by Arizona Business magazine, city officials announced in a statement.

The department is among 15 organizations honored in the publication's November issue for its significant contributions to the state's business community. This is the third year for the awards program.

Among the activities the department was cited for:

The revitalization of southern Scottsdale.

Continued development of the SkySong high-tech incubator, which has already attracted both international and national corporate tenants that provide more than 400 new jobs.

Expansion and improvements at Scottsdale Fashion Square mall.

A covered walkway and facade improvement program in downtown Scottsdale.

'Fit City Scottsdale'

"Fit City Scottsdale" is the topic of the next Mayor and City Council Breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday at the Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road.

The Fit City program is designed to help foster awareness of how people's fitness levels affect their overall health.

Bagels and coffee will be served. Admission is free and no reservations are necessary.
