A Scottsdale police officer suffered minor injuries Tuesday after the front end of his cruiser was struck by another vehicle driven by a motorist who Scottsdale police said ran a red light at the intersection of Shea Boulevard and 74th Street.

The crash, which happened at about 3 p.m. on the northeast corner of the intersection, heavily damaged the front end of the cruiser, causing part of its bumper to be thrown about 15 feet. The officer’s name was not immediately available.

The driver of the other car, a maroon Lexus GS300, was not injured, police said.

Traffic was restricted at the intersection for about an hour while crews cleaned up the scene. Traffic was backed up for about two miles on eastbound Shea Boulevard west of 74th Street.
