As the number of outstanding ballots dwindle away, Scottsdale Councilman Jim Lane's apparent victory is about to become official.

Lane now leads Mayor Mary Manross by 523 votes after Manross picked up 28 votes Tuesday out of 2,576 new votes tabulated for Scottsdale mayor.

Lane leads 51,165 votes to 50,642 votes as the counting continues two weeks after Election Day, according to unofficial results. Lane's lead has never slipped below 500 votes.

The Maricopa County Elections Department counted 6,468 early ballots and 36,131 provisional ballots Tuesday. On Monday, the county said it had about 55,000 ballots left to count, meaning there should be less than 13,000 ballots left countywide. However, on two previous occasions, the county has revised its ballot totals upward. It's not known how many of those remaining ballots include votes for Scottsdale mayor. The next update is scheduled for today.

The Scottsdale City Council vote leaders - who are far enough ahead to be declared winners - are Councilman Ron McCullagh, Lisa Borowsky and Suzanne Klapp.
