A Scottsdale man is in critical condition at Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn hospital with severe head injuries after his motorcycle struck the back of a car while traveling at an estimated speed of more than 100 mph near a busy Scottsdale intersection late Monday.
A Yamaha motorcycle driven by Aaron Montague, 20, hit the back of a Toyota Avalon sedan driven by a Scottsdale man about 11:45 p.m. near 130th Street and Shea Boulevard, throwing both Montague and his 18-year-old passenger from the motorcycle, according to police. The motorcycle skidded about 400 feet and burst into flames, police said.
Neither Montague nor his passenger was wearing a helmet. The motorcycle passenger suffered shoulder injuries and road rash, but neither injury was life-threatening, police said.
The driver of the Toyota was not injured.
Police closed Shea Boulevard between 124th and 130th streets for six hours to investigate the incident.
