Fans to line up for ‘Twilight’ autographs in E.V.

Another vampire movie will soon hit theaters, which doesn’t sound like that big a deal — until you consider that a crowd of about 3,000 fans of the flick got out of control Monday while waiting to see its leading man in person.

TMZ, the celebrity gossip and news Web site, is reporting that teens were trampled Nov. 10 and police were called to a San Francisco mall after a larger-than-expected crowd pushed to get into the mall to see actor Robert Pattinson, who plays vampire Edward Cullen in the soon-to-be-released movie “Twilight.”

Three other actors from the film — Taylor Lautner (Jacob), Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) and Edi Gathegi (Laurent) — will appear at a similar event Nov. 12 in Scottsdale.

They’ll be signing autographs and answering fan questions at the Hot Topic store inside Scottsdale Fashion Square.

The first 750 fans to buy a Twilight Tour T-shirt ($30) will receive the wristbands needed to stand in line for an autograph. Judging from the San Francisco turnout, far more fans may show up.

The movie is based on the best-selling young adult book series by Stephenie Meyer, and fans — called Twilighters — are eagerly anticipating the film, due in theaters Nov. 21. More than 17 million books have been sold, and there are more than 350 fan Web sites devoted to the series and its characters.

The movie follows the story of Phoenix high schooler Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart), whose mother sends her live with her father in Fork, Wash. Once there, Bella meets and falls in love with fangless, blood-resisting vampire Edward Cullen.

The actors at the Scottsdale signing event play Native American shape-shifter Jacob Black (Lautner) and enemy vampires Victoria (Lefevre) and Laurent (Gathegi). They will sign movie posters provided by the store. No cameras are allowed, and no personal items will be signed.

Twilight books rank on Teen People’s “Hot List” and were chosen by the American Library Association as top picks for young adults and reluctant readers.
