PetsHotel opens doors to area dogs, cats

A new PetsHotel is scheduled to open Saturday inside the PetSmart at 10030 N. 90th St. in Scottsdale.

PetsHotels provide overnight accommodations for dogs and cats and doggie day care for pooches who fret if left home alone.

Amenities range from hypoallergenic lambskin blankets to supervised play to a bone-booth so vacationing families can check on their left-behind loved ones. A PetSmart spokeswoman said some people call at least once during their pet’s stay.

TWEEN STORE CHAIN TANKS

Another retailer has fallem victim to the declining economy.

Club Libby Lu, a combo salon, fashion accessory store and dress-up party place for pre-teen girls, will shut all 78 locations nationwide during the next six months.

That includes a store at Scottsdale Fashion Square, the chain’s only Valley location.

A spokesman for Club Libby Lu parent Saks said the company is folding the specialty retail brand so it can concentrate on its Saks Fifth Avenue stores.

HIGH STREET OPENS

A new place to spend money is almost ready to make its debut.

On Thursday, High Street at CityNorth, the upscale shopping-dining-residential complex at 56th Street and Deer Valley Drive, north of Loop 101, celebrates its grand opening.

High Street will eventually have 47 stores and eight restaurants, but not all of them will be ready on day one.

Here’s the list of those that are expected to be ringing up sales from the start: Apricot Lane, Bag ’n Baggage, Bobby Chan, Caribbean Kids, Chico’s, Coldwater Creek, D & G Contemporary Designs, Fast Fix, Fresh Produce, Green Bone Bakery, Gymboree, Kona Grill, LensCrafters, Little Artika, Mojo Yogurt, Ocean Prime, Optix, Pioneer, Press Coffee Food Wine, Saito’s Japanese Steakhouse, Talbots and White House/Black Market.

Stores that may not make the grand opening festivities but are expected to open a week or two later include Bebe, Guess, Verde Maison, Status Clothing, Zuva Art Gallery, Haus and Alessi.

A temporary exhibit, dubbed “Circle of Life,” will fill one shop from Thursday through Jan. 23 in honor of the return of “The Lion King” to Arizona State University’s Gammage Auditorium in January. The exhibit includes excerpts from the Broadway show and details of the Phoenix Zoo’s vision for the future.

A block party that is free to the public is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday with family activities and entertainment, including a children’s area and Yappy Hour festivities for four-footed family members. High Street grand opening festivities continue through the weekend.
