A special season has aligned for Scottsdale Community College’s Haylee Thompson, who for the third time this season was selected Arizona Community College Athletic Conference Division II player of the week.

Thompson helped the Artichokes (20-6, 7-5 ACCAC) to volleyball wins over South Mountain and Glendale community colleges, averaging 6.6 kills per game and a .452 hitting percentage.

Overall this season, the Chandler High graduate is averaging four kills a game and 3.35 digs per game. The kills average places her at sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association in Division II.

CGCC, PV DOMINATE SOCCER

With three weeks remaining in the regular season, Chandler-Gilbert and Paradise Valley community colleges’ women’s soccer teams were a combined 26-1 in the ACCAC.

CGCC defeated Glendale Community College, 8-1, Wednesday, while Paradise Valley extended its win streak with the same 8-1 score over South Mountain Community College, setting up a significant clash between the two teams Saturday.

CGCC, ranked eighth in the NJCAA Division I poll, is the only team to beat PVCC this season.

Saturday’s battle at Chandler-Gilbert could decide the ACCAC regular-season champion.

MCC Jamboree

The women’s basketball season will kick off with the annual ACCAC jamboree this weekend at Mesa Community College.

Junior college teams from across the state will be scrimmaging throughout the day, with each team playing at least twice. Games begin at 10 a.m.

Saturday: CGCC women’s soccer vs. PVCC, 7 p.m.; MCC football vs Arizona Western, 7 p.m.

Tuesday: SCC volleyball vs. Arizona Western, 7 p.m.

Oct. 17: Mesa Thunderbird Cross Country Classic at Riverview Park in Mesa, 7 p.m.
