A woman was able to scare off a gunman Tuesday when she began praying as he attempted to rob her.

According to court records, a woman was in the parking lot at St. Timothy Catholic Community, 1738 W. Guadalupe Road in Mesa, getting items out of her car about 1 p.m. when a man pulled out a gun and demanded her car.

When the woman refused, the man threatened her, but she still said “No.” She then began praying and the man left without taking anything from her.

The woman called police, and they arrested James Jett, 24, of Mesa on suspicion of armed robbery.

Court records say that Jett had a pistol with him and admitted to committing the attempted robbery. He said he was trying to get money.
