Queen Creek council approves cell phone tower
Amanda Keim, Tribune
Some cell phone customers will soon find themselves with a little more coverage in Queen Creek. The Town Council approved a new Alltel cell phone tower at the corner of Rittenhouse and Riggs roads last week.
The 65-foot tower, which will be designed to look like a palm tree, will join a Nextel structure that was built nearby in 2005 and a T-Mobile tower approved in 2006.
The new structure will be the 13th cell phone tower in Queen Creek.
Six of the existing towers are in Founder's Park, on Ellsworth Road south of Ocotillo Road, said town spokeswoman Marnie Schubert.
"Hopefully by adding this tower, it's going to increase the coverage," Schubert said. "We're always trying to get better access in the community."
While Schubert said the town hasn't received any complaints about cell phone coverage lately, the rural parts of town tend to have spotty cell phone service.
Town officials have also recommended placing emergency calls from land lines instead of cell phones in the past to ensure faster responses.
A timeline for the new tower's completion wasn't immediately available.
