Summer doesn’t want to let go of 2008, it seems. A heat wave is back in the forecast, with a high of 100 degrees possible for Wednesday. The warm weather is expected to continue through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service, although daytime temperatures across the Valley will only reach the upper 90s.
Tuesday’s forecast high is 97.
According to historical averages, Phoenix’s last 100-degree day comes around Sept. 28th. The latest was Oct. 23 in 2003.
However, relief is on the horizon. Beginning late Thursday, a cold front is expected to move through the West. By Friday, highs will be more in line with seasonal norms – in the low 90s.
And over the weekend, the maximum temperatures should have trouble cracking the mid-80s.
This low-pressure system will pack some winds, with gusts on Thursday as strong as 23 mph. But any precipitation should be limited to Arizona’s higher elevations.
