Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi has been named to the All-WNBA first team for the third straight season – and fourth time in her career.
Taurasi, who also has a second-team selection on her WNBA resume, had the second-highest scoring average in league history, 24.1 points per game, last season -- placing just under her WNBA-record 25.3 points per game in 2006. The former No. 1 draft pick is the only player to be named to the last three All-WNBA first teams, and joins Seattle Storm center Lauren Jackson as one of two players to be named to the all-league first- or second-team in each of the last five seasons.
Taurasi is joined on the first team by the Los Angeles Sparks’ Candace Parker and Lisa Leslie, as well as Lindsay Whalen of the Connecticut Sun and Sophia Young of the San Antonio Silver Stars. Parker led all players in the voting process, while Leslie was chosen for the first team for the eighth time in her career.
Chosen for the All-WNBA second team were Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson of the Seattle Storm, Becky Hammon of the Silver Stars, Asjha Jones of the Sun, and Deanna Nolan of the Detroit Shock.
