Fire crew responds to disabled school bus

Mike Sakal, Tribune

Crews responded to a report of heavy smoke coming from the engine of a school bus on Scottsdale Road north of McDonald Drive Thursday afternoon.

An engine turbo malfunctioned shortly after 3 p.m., causing smoke to come from under the hood and fill the cab of the bus, according to a transportation worker for the Scottsdale Unified School District who was on the scene.

Two northbound lanes on Scottsdale road were briefly blocked by a Scottsdale fire truck, but the scene was cleared in about a half-hour.

The schoolchildren who were riding on the bus were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
