Samantha Taylor, 15, was sentenced to summary probation, which means she will be required to attend counseling, write an essay and perform community service, said Joan Weyrauch, a Southeast Mesa Juvenile Court assistant. She said Taylor was not sentenced to any jail time.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Taylor’s punishment fits the offense, which is a misdemeanor.
“It’s time this young lady and her mother take responsibility for her actions,” Thomas said. “Hopefully, this verdict will deliver this much-needed message.”
On Feb. 15, Taylor and Higley Unified School District bus driver Kim Sullivan argued after Sullivan stopped the bus to control unruly students.
Sullivan attempted to stop Taylor from getting off the bus by using force, a video shows. The teen and the bus driver are seen struggling at the front of the bus.
At one point, Sullivan’s daughter pulled Taylor away from her mother as several other students descended upon the fight.
At the time of the incident, Taylor was 14 years old and a student at Williams Field High School. She has since changed schools, according to court documents.
