In his postgame press conference Saturday, quarterback Rudy Carpenter said he thought ASU was focused and prepared for UNLV. On Monday, though, he admitted the Sun Devils had a sloppy practice on Thursday and that some of the mistakes made were repeated in the 23-20 overtime loss to the Rebels.

“There was a bit of a correlation,” he said.
Carpenter blamed himself for not confronting his teammates on Thursday and demanding their best.
“That’s what I thought about all Saturday night,” he said. “Being a leader on this team, that’s where I didn’t do my job, being more vocal.”
Carpenter said he doesn’t anticipate the same problems cropping up this week against third-ranked Georgia.
“I want to see the intensity level in practice get picked up. I want to see less mistakes and a different type of intensity, passion and fire in their eyes knowing we let one get away.”
PASSING ON GAME PLAN
Quarterback Rudy Carpenter was asked Monday whether he thought the Sun Devils’ game plan was too conservative against UNLV. The Rebels played a two-deep zone for much of the contest, and ASU threw the ball just 23 times after airing it 36 times in both of the first two games.
“I’ll pass on that,” Carpenter said after a long pause. “I’m not the coach.”
Later, however, Carpenter admitted to a bit of frustration that ASU ran the ball twice on its overtime possession before a third-down pass fell incomplete.
“Being a competitor, of course I want the ball in my hands,” he said. “I want to have the chance to win the game.”
INJURY UPDATE
Erickson said linebacker Gerald Munns, who did not play vs. UNLV after having surgery last week for a broken pinky finger, is still experiencing soreness but is hopeful he can play. Running back Keegan Herring, who was also held out vs. UNLV, is experiencing less tension in his injured hamstrings but is considered day-to-day.
