A Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market planned for Chandler Boulevard and Desert Foothills Parkway in Ahwatukee Foothills is off the table for now.
The Bentonville, Ark.-based retailer said it has no choice but to opt out of a lease with their co-developer BMB Marketplace LLC when that company filed for bankruptcy.
"From our perspective, the future's uncertain," said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Delia Garcia.
She said the company is still interested in opening a location at that site, but Garcia said the property was taken by BMB's creditors.
Quiznos closes a shop
The Quiznos at Crossroads Towne Center has toasted its last sandwich.
The sub shop is the latest tenant to close or announce a closure in recent months at the shopping center, which opened a little more than three years ago at Gilbert Road and Loop 202 in Gilbert. Other retailers include Juice It Up! and Linens 'n Things, which recently filed for bankruptcy.
A music store called f.y.e. (an acronym for "for your entertainment") was the first store to close at the shopping center in May.
Denise Hart, vice president of marketing for the center's management company, Vestar Development, said she wasn't certain about the individual retailers' decisions to close, saying customer traffic has remained.
