Arizona residents will narrow down their choices of candidates today by placing their vote in the state's primary. According to the Maricopa County Recorder's Office, all polling places will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Officials are reminding voters to bring a valid ID, which includes an Arizona driver's license or any form of U.S., state, federal or local government issued identification.

If those documents are unavailable, voters must bring two forms of identification without a photo, such as a utility bill, vehicle registration or bank statement bearing their name and address. Voters must also vote in the proper precinct, which depends on where they live.

East Valley residents will need to pay special attention to several decisions this election year, including the contest between Russell Pearce and Kevin Gibbons for a position in the District 18 Senate.

Tim Nelson and Gerald Richard are vying for the Democratic spot in the Maricopa County Attorney general election. Republican incumbent Andrew Thomas will face the Democratic nominee in November's election.

Six Republicans, including Susan Bitter Smith, David Schweikert, Jim Ogsbury, Laura Knaperek, Mark Anderson and Lee Gentry will face each other in the race for the District 5 House of Representatives seat.

Senate Majority Leader Thayer Verschoor is running against Eddie Farnsworth in the District 22 Republican primary.

The race for Maricopa County Sheriff's Office will not require any narrowing: Incumbent Joe Arpaio has no Republican opponent, but faces Democrat Dan Saban.

The Pinal County sheriff's election, however, will require a decision between incumbent Chris Vasquez and Jayme Valenzuela, both Democrats.

Republican Paul Babeu is running unopposed in the race.
