DHL, a global shipping services company, will slash 105 technology positions at its 24-hour data information center near Loop 101 and Bell Road in Scottsdale.
The cuts, which account for 11 percent of the center's 925-person work force, are coming from two of the company's information technology services departments.
As recently as 2004, the company employed nearly 1,200 workers at the 52,000-square-foot Koll Center, which is one of three worldwide that manage and monitor all of the company's worldwide deliveries. The others are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and London.
"The (latest) work force reduction is linked to the reduction in demand of the U.S. express (shipping) business," said Robert Mintz, a spokesman in the company's Washington state office.
The company opened its data information center in 2002.
Mintz said affected employees were given 60 days notice and will be eligible for assistance in finding new jobs.
The Plantation, Fla.-based company had big plans to sweep up 15 to 20 percent of the shipping business in the U.S. market, but has recently begun scaling back its plans here.
Mintz wouldn't say how much of the domestic market the company currently controls.
DHL is owned by Deutsche Post World Net, a postal monopoly in Germany and the world's largest airfreight carrier.
