The National Weather Service in Phoenix is predicting cooler temperatures with a 40 percent chance of rain Tuesday afternoon, increasing to 50 percent Tuesday night. Weather service spokesman Jaret Rogers said the Valley is experiencing very moist conditions associated with Tropical Storm Julio.

Paradise Valley was hit hardest Monday with 1.73 inches of rain, with parts of north Scottsdale receiving up to 1.25 inches. Most recording stations in the East Valley measured between 0.02 of an inch to 0.50, on average.

Queen Creek received a total of 1.26 inches, the Salt River and Priest Drive station in Tempe got 0.55, Chandler had 0.16, and Mesa recorded 0.02 to 0.04.

Police and fire officials said there weren’t any major incidents. Police said there were downed power lines in several areas of Gilbert, and some street lights were without power.

The weather service received several reports of falling and uprooted trees. Residents near Queen Creek’s Plaza neighborhood said the wind ripped several trees from the ground. Some Queen Creek homes and businesses flooded.

At Chandler Municipal Airport, two single-engine planes broke free from their tie-downs and flipped onto other parked planes. Winds measured up to 75 mph when the storm hit late Monday afternoon. No one was injured, although eight other planes, a hangar and two sections of chain-link fence around the airport were damaged.

APS reported a power outage at around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday due to an electrical failure. The outage affected 1,240 customers from Dixileta Drive to Happy Valley Road, and Pima Road to 120th Street in Scottsdale. Spokesman Damon Gross said as of 8:30 a.m., all but 65 customers had their power restored. He said the agency isn’t sure if weather caused the outage.
