Three Valley restaurant owners have been indicted amid allegations that they failed to pay more than $25,000 in back wages to employees, the Arizona Attorney General's Office announced Thursday.
Leonard R. Gallardo Jr., 68, and Frances Lucy Gallardo, 67, both of Scottsdale, each were charged with one count of fraud, two counts of conspiracy and one count of theft. Martin David Gonzales, 38, of Anthem was indicted on two counts of fraud, two counts of conspiracy and one count of theft.
The defendants, owners and managers of the Scottsdale and Anthem-based Pinata Nueva restaurant chains were required to pay back wages to employees as specified in a settlement with the U.S. Department of Labor, according to the state attorney general's office.
The employees allege that they were never paid by the defendants.
