PRESCOTT - Officials say a mysterious malady has killed more than 40 head of cattle that had been grazing in a pasture in the Chino Valley.
The cattle were found dead early Wednesday and ranchers spent the day burying the carcasses.
Officials with the Arizona Department of Agriculture are investigating the case, and specialists from several state agencies were at the scene.
Agriculture department spokeswoman Laura Oxley says it appears the animals may have died from some sort of plant toxicity. There was no sign of foul play.
More than 150 other cattle in the pasture were not harmed.
