The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale's Virginia G. Piper Branch's draft architecture program was honored recently with the national clubs' Merit Award for Program Excellence in the arts category.

It was presented along with a $1,000 cash award during Boys & Girls Clubs of America's 102nd National Conference in San Francisco.

The arts is one of five core program areas for which the clubs give honors. The others are: character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; and sports, fitness and recreation.

"The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale is honored to receive this very prestigious national award," Steve Davidson, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Scottsdale, said in a statement.

"This is a testament to the dedicated staff and the innovative programs that help introduce our club members to different educational offerings and potentially new career choices."

For more information on the clubs, call Becky Hornack at (480) 344-5683.
