Hip-hop artist arrested at Tempe nightclub

Rising hip-hop artist Naledge of the Chicago duo Kidz in the Hall was arrested over the weekend at a Tempe nightclub on suspicion of interfering with a police investigation.
The 25-year-old, whose given name is Jabari Miles Evans, was arrested early Saturday at Cherry Lounge & Pit after he and DJ Double-0 performed there.
Tempe police spokesman Sgt. Steve Carbajal said the arrest followed a fight at the club, though he had no details about the altercation.
A call on Tuesday to Naledge’s Chicago home was not returned. The New York company that manages the group did not respond to e-mails.
The arrest was first reported Monday on the Web site www.hiphopdx.com, which said a melee broke out between Double-0 and bouncers at the club, and Naledge was reportedly arrested on suspicion of photographing the incident.
The site also said Double-0 was hospitalized. However, Carbajal said no injuries were reported.
An arrest report about the incident also said nothing about photographs being taken.
“He refused multiple police commands to leave a crime scene, and had to be physically removed,” the report said.
Naledge was taken to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of violating a city code of obstructing justice. In his mug shot, he sports a big grin. Carbajal said Naledge was released after posting $500 bail.
The duo are in the middle of the Rock the Bells summer concert tour, which includes performances by groups including A Tribe Called Quest, Nas and Mos Def. The Tempe set was scheduled in between Rock the Bells tour dates.
The group was founded several years ago when the Double-0 and Naledge met while attending the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League college in Philadelphia. Since the release of their first album, School Was My Hustle, the duo has been on a steady incline in their careers.
Their newest album, "The In Crowd," was released earlier this year. It reached No. 9 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart and received play on MTV.
